Sketch Work
I've had a love for art since a young age; these are some examples of some of the work I've created across the years. During my exploration of different forms, I've found that I preferred sketching over painting. This is not just due to the fact that I am better with a pencil than I am with a paint brush. I feel that using pencil is the best tool for capturing detail, gradient, and texture. I have become a fan of realism and use realist techniques in all of my pieces.
This first sketch was drawn using a wooden block, a desk lamp, and a dark room. After placing the lamp I drew what I saw. The focus was not the details in the wood but the way the way the light casts the shadow. Using a cone casts a gradual gradient across the back as there are no hard edges.
Hands are some of the hardest shapes to draw. This is because it is an object everyone sees all the time, making it easier to spot mistakes. This was part of an assignment where we had to draw our hands in different positions. Instead of focusing on shading the main purpose was to grasp the creases and proportions in the hand, making it look as realistic as possible.

This eye is some of my best work. I used a special pencil with softer graphite and a blender tool. A pencil with softer graphite offers more control to the artist in their ability to contrast dark and light, leaving more graphite behind in darker places. I utilized a blending tool to soften lines and edges and an eraser to highlight the iris of the eye. I like to say I drew a perfect eye in 30 minutes and ruined it in a second by adding the eyebrow.

Using a pyramid you can see the difference in the way the light created a hard edge. There is far less shading needed as the lines could be more crisp.
This is a portrait assignment where we drew someone we admired. I decided to draw Elon Musk. I took of picture of him and put it in grey scale. I then measured a grid and put it on top of the photo. Using the grid I went section by section keeping as much detail as possible. I struggled near the right eye as there was too much light on that side of the photo. Other than this blemish I believe it is some of my best work.
